Welcome back to STEMI Systems online! There is a new Paper of the Month available, and all of our podcasts are archived for you to listen to. Every issue of the STEMI Systems newsletter is also available online.
Last month’s poll asked how many different emergency service providers your institution works with. The poll results show that answers were split evenly between a single provider and three or more.
The results provide an apposite snapshot of the current dichotomy in acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) care programs.
The risks to both short- and long-term patient survival posed by delays in receiving primary percutaneous coronary intervention are well known. As a result a number of institutions have developed regional networks aimed at optimizing access to treatment, commonly through the use of streamlined emergency medical systems, and simple standardized cascade protocols. Institutions that lack this integration between providers typically face transfer delays and therefore greater challenges in achieving guideline treatment times.
This month’s poll asks what percentage of your patients arrive at the emergency department using their own or public transportation, rather than by ambulance. Share your opinions on this topic and any other on the discussion boards!
If you have not already done so, please register with STEMI Systems online for free – it is quick and easy, and as a registered user you will be able to access the newsletter archive, podcasts, Paper of the Month, participate in the forum, and vote in the polls, giving you an opportunity to contribute to the international STEMI care community.
Sincerely,
